    Tannin Problems

    What is Tannin?

    Tannin is a chemical that naturally exists in tea and coffee as well as wine and other alcoholic beverages. It can stain crockery and leaves a dirty brown ring around mugs and splotchy marks on saucers. A common misconception is that bleaching will make the stains go away, but it only makes them invisible, it doesn't remove the stain. The stain is still in the glass or cup and will affect beer head retention and will affect the drink taste and customer experience.

    The build-up of the tannin can occur over a period, and will be even worse is the glasses aren't pre-washed. The glass washer machine will start to loosen the tannin at around 60°C, but when the hot rinse occurs at approximately 90-100°C, it bakes back onto the porcelain and makes the marks harder to remove and more stubborn. A lack of rinse aid can further exacerbate this if you think your machine isn't using enough rinse aid, you can check this by marking the bottle with a marker pen or so

  7. Daily, Weekly & Monthly Dishwasher Maintenance Tasks

    Failing to maintain your machine will void any warranty on the machine.

    Daily

    1. Always empty machine at the end of every day and wash out the filters.
    2. Only use compatible detergent, rinse aid, salt & descaler.
    3. Never turn the machine on when water is not available.

    Weekly

    REPLENISH WATER SOFTENER

    To replenish the water softener, turn both taps clockwise and remove the top and drain water to a suitable level. Put about a pint of salt in, then replace top (be careful to not over tighten). Turn bottom pipe connector back and let the water run for approx 40 minutes into a nearby sink. Turn both taps anti-clockwise; your water softener is then replenished.

    DESCALE REFURBISH MACHINE & GLASSES

    Let machine fill & heat up, put approx 10oz of descaler in the machine and leave 5 minutes. Then run the cycle three times with nothing in the machine; this helps to clean the

  8. Basic Fault Finding

    The following are some generic troubleshooting solutions to common issues that might occur with most machines. Please check the instruction manual that came with your machine for specific troubleshooting instructions for your machine.

    The machine will not empty

    A – Does the Machine have a drain pump fitted?

    Hold the waste pipe in the air, and remove the drain plug. Lay pipe straight on the floor into a drain or dish and see if anything comes out. If nothing does, the drain pump will need to be dismantled.

    Remove the bottom, front cover of the machine. The drain pump is connected to the machine below the drain pump, undo the circlip and pull the drain pump towards you, disconnecting the two wires from the back of the drain pump. Remove the three screws holding the front of the pump in place and remove the blockage from inside the pump. Then replace the drain pump.

    The following images are taken from an experiment by one of our suppliers, examining the effects of limescale, lipstick, excessive rinse aid, heat and dirty glass washers on the quality of beer in glasses. They all use lager poured into a 'head retainer' glass, which has nucleation points etched into the base of the glass to promote foam generation.
